Qualifications

  • High School or GED required.
  • Graduate of a medical assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health preferred.
  • One year or more experience as a medical assistant in a medical setting is required (5 years preferred).
  • Completion of EMT, CNA, or LNA training required.
  • Experience in health plan/medical group settings preferred.

## Primary Medical Care Assistant (Boston)Applylocations: Boston MA Office (Northampton)time type: Full timeposted on: Posted Todayjob requisition id: R13229**Job Summary:**The Primary Care Medical Assistant provides care to patients in a clinic setting by managing patient flow through the clinic, obtaining pertinent clinical information including the patient's complaint, health history, and measurement of vital signs, preparing the patient for examination, assisting provider during the examination and follow up needs. assures accurate and timely documentation of care per company standards. The MA supports the care team in the overall coordination of the member's care by coordinating activities with primary care nurses, primary care team members and community resources.**Essential Functions*** Optimize patient satisfaction, provider time and exam room utilization by maintaining patient flow, keeping appointments on schedule, reviewing service delivery compared to schedule, and reminding provider of delays.* Promote efficient patient visit by ensuring all appropriate data, documentation, reports and forms are available to the provider prior to the visit.* Document brief history of chief complaint/reason for visit, allergy status, medication reconciliation and other pertinent information in the electronic medical record (EMR).* Perform vital signs, necessary screenings, measurements, and point of care testing and record results accurately in the appropriate EMR template.* Prepare patient for examination by the provider, assisting as needed with undressing, gowning, draping, transferring to exam table, etc. and preparing the necessary equipment/supplies needed for the exam/procedure.* Assist provider during and after the exam, including chaperoning, assisting with procedures, interpreting, labeling and sending specimens to lab, and clearing away instruments etc.* Administering vaccines, performing phlebotomy and EKG’s* Keep exam rooms neat and stocked with necessary supplies and educational materials, monitoring supply levels and re-ordering as necessary* Attend in-service training, team and other appropriate medical, staff and health center meetings* Assist patient after exam as needed and clean and setup room in preparation for re-use.* Perform all point-of-care testing competently, in accordance with Joint Commission standards and federal regulations, recording accurately and informing supervisor immediately of any errors or problems.* Perform quality assurance (QA) activities in accordance with Joint Commission standards and federal regulations.* Clean and store all equipment used and promptly report any equipment problems to supervisor.* Assist with patient discharge and check out.* Follow up with patients who have not attended their appointments.* Assist provider and nurse with paperwork and/or phone calls as assigned.* Assist with administrative tasks including: prior authorizations, specialty appointments, follow up phone calls, obtaining records and other tasks as needed* Perform any other job related duties as requested.**Education and Experience*** High School or GED required* Graduate of a medical assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health preferred* One (1) year or experience as a medical assistant in a medical setting or equivalent experience in a medical setting in a similar role is required (5 years is preferred)* Completion of a qualified training program such as EMT, CNA, or LNA required* Experience working in a health plan, medical group, health-related facility or medical/DME supplier preferred* Education, training or experience as an insurance coordinator or medical coder/biller preferred**Competencies, Knowledge and Skills*** Ability to obtain vital signs* Familiarity with and ability to utilize an Electronic Medical Record* Effective communication skills* Demonstrated cultural competence and empathy* Ability to use on-line training platforms* Ability to review welcome packets and obtain consent forms, including the Release of Information and attach them to EMR* Ability to learn multiple workflows and perform them consistently, such as referrals to specialists* Willing to learn and utilize telehealth technologies (video, chat, etc.), when appropriate, for a variety of clinical care and care management services.* English speaking required with bilingual (Spanish) preferred* Knowledge of the CCA Model of Care preferred**Licensure and Certification*** Certified or Registered Medical Assistant preferred* Certified Phlebotomy Technician* To help protect our employees, members, and the communities we serve from acquiring communicable diseases, Influenza vaccination is a requirement of this position. In addition to base compensation, you may qualify for a bonus tied to company and individual performance.
