Job summary

State of Nebraska's Department of Correctional Services in Lincoln (and nearby facilities like Tecumseh) seeks dedicated primary care physicians to provide compassionate, primary-level care to underserved populations in a correctional setting.

Qualifications

• MD degree and Nebraska medical license are required.
• Three years' experience as a visiting physician at an approved hospital or two years as a staff physician at an approved hospital are required.
• Must pass pre-employment exams: medical exam and drug test; complete NE Corrections Training Program.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and/or participate in examination and diagnosis of acutely ill patients.
• Read and interpret X-rays (overread by radiologist).
• Perform minor surgery (I&D abscess, joint injections, suturing) when necessary.
• Supervise mid-level staff and participate in training.
• May treat mentally ill patients within the facility.
