Job summary

WellMed, part of the Optum family, is seeking a Primary Care Physician to join our team in El Paso, TX. Optum is a clinician-led care organization working to make healthcare better for everyone.

The role offers a strong clinical team, a patient panel with 14–16 visits per day, and a compensation structure featuring a base salary plus a $50,000 annual quality incentive alongside PTO, CME days, and holiday closures.

Qualifications

• MD/DO/MBBS or equivalent.
• Board-certified or eligible in Family or Internal Medicine.
• Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain prior to employment.
• Valid DEA license or ability to obtain prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• See 14–16 patients per day with 30-minute visits.
• Collaborate with primary care physicians, hospitalists and network of sub-specialists.
• Practice medicine autonomously with support of Optum Care Delivery team.

Position Highlights:

• Quality vs. quantity - typically see 14 to 16 patients per day (30 min per visit)
• Instead of RVU or volume metrics, our physicians are measured and rewarded on quality of care (most physicians earn $50,000, paid semi-annually)
• Start with 160 hours PTO in first year, plus 5 days for CME, and the clinics are closed for 8 national holidays
• Strong clinical support team that includes NPs, PAs, RNs, LVNs, MAs, nurse educators, case managers, clinic administrators, referral managers, coders, centralized scheduling, nurse advice line, and robust IT
• Collaborate with our primary care physicians (IM & FM), hospitalists, and network of employed/contracted sub-specialists

Required Qualifications:

• Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.), or M.B.B.S
• Board certification or eligibility in Family or Internal Medicine
• Active, unrestricted medical license in Texas or ability to obtain prior to employment
• Valid DEA license or ability to obtain prior to employment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency
• A working understanding and support of a managed care environment
