Job summary

Akicita Federal is seeking Physicians (Family Medicine and/or Internal Medicine) to deliver comprehensive outpatient primary care within a Government-operated facility in Phoenix, AZ. Three positions are available to serve Native American communities through the Indian Health Service.

Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions, providing preventive care, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care in accordance with IHS policies.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO with board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • Experience in outpatient primary care.
  • Experience in federally operated healthcare settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of acute and chronic conditions in an outpatient primary care setting.
  • Provide comprehensive preventive care, health screenings, and patient education tailored to individual and community health needs.
  • Document clinical encounters in RPMS/EHR per IHS and federal standards.
  • Coordinate patient care with specialists, nursing staff, and ancillary team to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease common in the patient population.
  • Participate in Medical Staff governance and maintain active clinical privileges at the facility.

Akicita Federal is hiring Physicians (Family Medicine and/or Internal Medicine) to deliver comprehensive outpatient primary care to Native American communities served by the Indian Health Service (IHS) in Phoenix, AZ. You will work directly within a Government-operated healthcare facility, bringing high-quality, culturally important primary care to patients who depend on the IHS system. Three positions are available, offering a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting impact on an underserved population.

  • Diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of acute and chronic conditions in an outpatient primary care setting
  • Provide comprehensive preventive care, health screenings, and patient education tailored to individual and community health needs
  • Document clinical encounters accurately and thoroughly within the facility's electronic health record system in accordance with IHS and federal standards
  • Coordinate patient care with specialists, nursing staff, and ancillary healthcare team members to ensure continuity and quality of care
  • Manage and monitor ongoing chronic disease conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease common in the patient population
  • Participate in Medical Staff activities, adhere to Medical Staff Bylaws, and maintain active clinical privileges at the assigned facility
  • Ensure all services are delivered in accordance with accepted standards of medical practice, applicable federal laws, and IHS policies
What sets candidates apart:
  • Prior experience practicing medicine within an IHS, tribal, or other federally operated healthcare facility
  • Familiarity with the health challenges and cultural context of Native American patient populations
  • Experience working in a federally qualified health center (FQHC), community health center, or safety-net clinical environment
  • Proficiency with federal or IHS-used electronic health record platforms (e.g., RPMS/EHR)
  • History of active participation in Medical Staff governance, quality improvement initiatives, or peer review processes
