Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
  • Education: Degree of MD or equivalent from an approved school.
  • License: Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
  • Residency Training: Completion of approved residency training leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs with verified practice in the U.S.
  • Residents enrolled in accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in English, spoken and written.
  • Preferred Experience: Primary Care experience preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: In accordance with VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
Duties
  • Work as part of a primary care team providing comprehensive care including preventive, urgent, and routine services, and women's healthcare.
  • Assess, plan, implement, document, and evaluate patient care, meeting established VA standards.
  • Perform histories and physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic studies, establish diagnoses, and develop treatment plans.
  • Order subspecialty consults and tests, complete forms, and perform clinical duties as directed.
  • Utilize quality improvement data to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective care, including telemedicine and occasional travel to other clinics.
  • Participate in the VA's total rewards program, including education debt reduction, competitive salary, paid time off, retirement benefits, insurance, licensure, CME reimbursement, and malpractice coverage.
  • Work schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday.
