Job summary

The Liberty Clinic at The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant - Primary Care. This role ensures efficient patient flow, prepares patients for visits, and supports clinicians with examinations and procedures.

Responsibilities include scheduling tests, documenting vital signs, managing medical records, and handling front-desk tasks and billing processes as needed. Prior MA education or certification is required; BLS preferred.

Qualifications

• High school graduate required.
• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or at least one year as Medical Assistant or CCMA/NCRMA certification.

Responsibilities

• Accurately schedules tests; obtains films and reports; and prepares laboratory specimens according to policy.
• Assists physicians and/or nurses with special procedures and examinations as defined on competency checklist.
• Collaborates with health care team to coordinate patient care and may record patient history elements for clinical staff review.
• Electronically submits, calls and/or faxes prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
• Ensures data collected for completed procedures is recorded in medical records.
• Maintains medical records and ensures required documentation is available; distributes reports and correspondence; files forms related to medical charts.
• Maintains orderliness of examination rooms; stocks supplies and completes required logs and equipment checks.
• Performs clerical duties: greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification, processing insurance forms, and ambulatory care charges.
• Performs simple procedures as directed by nurse or physician per competency checklist.
• Performs vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures and documents in medical record.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
• Other duties may be assigned as required.
