Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Primary Care Medical Assistant or LPN to join our Primary Care team. You’ll support providers, prepare patients for visits, draw blood, perform EKGs and basic testing, administer vaccines, and help coordinate follow-up care using Epic.

A strong emphasis on patient-centered, efficient care guides daily tasks. We offer tuition reimbursement, insurance from day one, and a path for MA certification through Mercy; 32+ hour per pay period workers qualify for benefits and retirement

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Active MA certification/registration (RMA, CCMA, CMA) preferred.
• LPN license required for LPN option.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for provider visits using the Advanced Standard Rooming Process.
• Take vitals, review history and allergies, document chief complaints.
• Perform medication reconciliation and address care gaps.
• Conduct in-office testing (blood draws, EKGs, mental status exams, oxygen studies, POCT).
• Administer vaccines and injections within scope.
• Schedule follow-up appointments per policy.
• Collaborate with providers and clinical teams to support care plans.

Job Profile Summary

Under the direction of the primary care operations team, the Primary Care Patient Care LPN works directly with Mercy Primary Care Providers to provide safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient-centered care in a systematic way. The Primary Care Patient Care LPN will partner with patients, providers, and other members of the clinical care team to drive quality outcomes for all patients. Duties and responsibilities will be performed in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

What You’ll Do

As a Medical Assistant in Primary Care, you’ll be a vital part of the patient experience and care team. Your responsibilities include:

Preparing patients for provider visits using the Advanced Standard Rooming Process:

• Documenting chief complaints
• Taking vitals, reviewing history and allergies
• Completing medication reconciliation
• Addressing care gaps (e.g., screenings, diabetic eye exams)
• Rechecking elevated blood pressures
• Documenting preventive visit details in Epic

Performing in-office testing:

• Blood draws
• Mental status exams
• EKGs
• Oxygen studies
• Point-of-care testing

Administering vaccines and injections within scope

Scheduling follow-up appointments per office policy

Collaborating with providers and clinical teams to support care plans

Qualifications

Primary Care Assistant – MA

• Education: High School Diploma or GED
• Certification: BLS required within 90 days of hire
• Preferred Experience: 6+ months in clinical healthcare, ideally in primary care

Primary Care – Certified MA

• Education: High School Diploma or GED
• Certification: Active MA certification/registration (RMA, CCMA, CMA)
• BLS: Required within 90 days of hire

LPN Option

• Education: Diploma in Practical Nursing
• Licensure: Active LPN license
• Preferred Experience: 6+ months in clinical healthcare, preferably primary care
