Job description

Primary (Ages 3-6) Teacher Assistant - 2025/2026 School Year

We are seeking a Primary Teacher Assistant to join our team at Near North Montessori for the 2025/2026 school year! The role involves working with students ages 3-6, supporting meaningful work engagement, ensuring safe transitions, and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.

Schedule: 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday, between 8:00am and 6:00pm, with potential for summer camp opportunities.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the teacher in classroom activities and environment
  • Provide instruction and support student work
  • Maintain attendance and other records
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, and nap times; support transitions
  • Assist with classroom cleaning routines and material preparation
  • Observe and communicate student behaviors and progress
  • Assist with drop-off and pick-up routines
  • Participate in meetings and classroom events
  • Engage in professional development activities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience with children 6 and under, preferably in a Montessori setting
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Commitment to equitable education, anti-bias, and anti-racist practices
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to various settings
  • Understanding of child development
  • Physical stamina to support children throughout the day
