Job summary

Washington University’s Enterprise Physical Operations is hiring a Preventative Maintenance Technician I (2nd Shift) at the St. Louis campus.

You will service air handling units, exhaust fans, pumps, and compressors, document work orders, and help keep campus buildings safe and reliable. Eligible candidates have a high school diploma, at least 1 year in skilled trade functions, and are comfortable working in varied environments, including labs and mechanical spaces.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience: Relevant skill trade functions (1 year) is preferred.
  • No specific certification/licensure required.

Responsibilities

  • Services air handling units (cleaning, greasing, oiling, filters, belts).
  • Services exhaust fans (greasing, oiling, belts).
  • Services pumps (cleaning, greasing, oiling).
  • Services compressors and air dryers.
  • Changes climate room chart recorder charts.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment rooms.
  • Rooftop drain inspections.

This role supports the reliable operation of building systems by performing scheduled upkeep on HVAC equipment, mechanical components, and campus infrastructure. Focuses on routine servicing, system checks, and equipment documentation to prevent failures and extend asset life. Works independently and as part of a team, maintains clean and organized equipment areas, identifies emerging maintenance needs, and contributes to a safe and well‐functioning facility environment through consistent attention to detail and adherence to preventative maintenance standards.# **Job Description****Primary Duties & Responsibilities:*** Services air handling units (cleaning, greasing, oiling, filters, belts).* Services exhaust fans (greasing, oiling, belts).* Services pumps (cleaning, greasing, oiling).* Services compressors and air dryers.* Changes climate room chart recorder charts.* Maintains and cleans equipment rooms.* Rooftop drain inspections.* Performs exterior campus lighting check.* Documents building equipment.* Performs other duties as assigned. **Working Conditions:** Job Location/Working Conditions:* Normal office environment.* Exposure to blood-borne pathogens.* Exposure to chemicals.* High noise environment.* Requires protective devices.* Dust, dirt, grease, or other disagreeable elements.* Exposure to moving machinery.* Exposure to animals (trips to DCM).* Patient care setting.* Works inside and outside, in dusty and dirty places such as pits and equipment spaces where temperatures may exceed 100 degrees, and equipment may be oily and greasy.* Employee may be required to work in the vicinity of labs containing bio-hazardous radioactive substances.* Exposed to wet and cold conditions, as well as noise and vibration from operating equipment.* Must be able to work in morgues, gross anatomy, and pathology laboratories. **Working Conditions**Physical Effort:* Typically sitting at a desk or table.* Typically standing or walking.* Repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement.* Using tools requiring high dexterity.* Occasional lifting (25 lbs. or less).* Occasional lifting (25 – 50 lbs.).Equipment:* Office equipment.* Simple hand tools.* Tools associated with duties.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this classification.
