Job summary

Memphis Shelby County Schools is seeking a motivated HVAC Preventive Maintenance Technician to perform scheduled maintenance on a range of HVAC systems across school facilities. You will help ensure equipment operates efficiently and complies with manufacturer guidelines to avoid unexpected breakdowns.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED, EPA 608 universal HVAC certification, and at least two years of HVAC maintenance experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; EPA 608 universal HVAC certification.
• Two years of HVAC maintenance experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, tools and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment including air handlers, RTUs, boilers, VAV systems, and split systems.
• Inspect and replace filters and belts as required.
• Clean cooling towers and condensers; lubricate moving parts.
• Check performance, report abnormalities or repair needs.
• Maintain accurate service records and materials used.
• Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and team members.
• Assist with basic troubleshooting; escalate complex issues as needed.
• Adhere to all safety policies, procedures and standards.

Job description

The position of HVAC Preventive Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance on commercial and /or residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This position will ensure HVAC equipment operates efficiently, complies with manufacturer guidelines and avoids unexpected breakdowns through schedule inspections and services.

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment including air handers, RTU’s chillers, boilers, VAV systems, and spilt systems.
• Inspect and replace filters, belts, and other, consumable as required.
• Clean cooling towers.
• Lubricate motors, bearing and other moving parts.
• Check system performance and functionality; report abnormalities or repair needs.
• Clean condenser and evaporator coils, drain lines, and pans.
• Monitor refrigerant levels and pressures, report anomalies.
• Maintain accurate records of services performed and materials used.
• Performs all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of safety and quality.
• Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and team members
• Assist with basic troubleshooting; escalated complex issues as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Requires High School diploma or GED and HVAC certification (e.g. EPA 608 universal). Two years of experience in HVAC maintenance or related field preferred. Knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, tools, and safety protocols. Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

Degree Equivalency Formula

• Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.
• Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
