Job summary

Harford County Sheriff's Office in Bel Air, MD seeks a Classification and Pretrial Services Counselor to conduct intake interviews, assess custody and housing needs, and manage case files for pretrial release and detention decisions.

You will perform criminal history checks, verify information, and coordinate with courts and outside agencies to ensure safe, compliant housing and program participation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, or related field.
• At least 1 year of interview or casework management experience, preferably with defendants or inmates.
• Must complete CJIS/JIS certification and maintain access credentials.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake interviews and assessments to determine custody levels and housing needs.
• Perform criminal history checks and verify information for program eligibility.
• Manage inmate records, case files, and pretrial release documentation.
• Coordinate pretrial screening and prepare court reports.
• Provide referrals and coordinate with Court and outside agencies.
• Maintain custody and supervise program participants.
