  • QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
    • High school diploma or its equivalent required.
    • Graduate of an accredited business school or college with focus in medical assisting preferred
  • Current Medical Assistant certification
  • LPN
  • Current certification in basic life support (BLS) required, or the ability to obtain before working independently with patients.
    • Proficient in computer use, including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook and Electronic Medical Record Experience.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail.
    • Previous surgical scheduling experience preferred.
    • Flexible, solid team player, able to work independently and possess good communication and organizational skills and the ability to multitask
    • Service oriented, approachable, and responsive to customer needs
    • Able to effectively and efficiently make use of time and resources.
    • Independent judgment necessary to work in accordance with department practices and general directives received by Supervisors.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Completes surgical paperwork with patients.
    • Reviews all pre-operative instructions with the patient.
  • Performs vital signs and patient care on assigned group of patients.
    • Orders/Schedules all preoperative studies required by anesthesia per the algorithm.
    • Duties may include but not limited to performing: Phlebotomy, EKG’s, Urine specimens.
    • Establish and maintain strong positive relationships with patients, other OSS employees and Medical staff.
    • Greets all patients in a friendly and gracious manner, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.
    • Obtains all patient information in a private and confidential manner.
    • Registers accurate patient information. Maintains all required documentation.
    • Places patient orders accurately.
    • Identifies each patient accurately by verifying date of birth and spelling of last and first name.
    • Collects specimens utilizing professional and accepted practices.
    • Transports specimens in a timely manner.
    • Processes specimens per laboratory procedure.
    • Reviews all applicable computer reports for errors, resolving problems and making corrections.
    • Answers telephone promptly and handles all calls with courtesy and efficiency. Provides appropriate results and delivers accurate messages.
    • Maintains adequate supply levels for assigned areas.
    • Maintains a safe environment following hospital policies and procedures.
    • Maintains a high level of quality assurance.
    • Reports all quality concerns according to policy.
    • Utilizes appropriate safety and infection control practices.
    • Maintains confidentiality regarding patients and all aspects of care.
    • Participates in educational activities, unit meetings, and quality initiatives.
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Maintains skills as demonstrated through competency testing.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Must be proficient in the English language, both verbally and written, in order to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians, vendors, and the general public.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    Moderate physical effort when working in patient care environment consisting of standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and stooping. Moderate sitting and keyboarding along with fine and gross motor skills and manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other equipment. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
