General Summary & Scope

The Prestige Beauty Advisor (PBA) is responsible for maximizing sales in the prestige category (color cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance) by engaging guests to determine their needs and assisting in the selection and purchase of prestige merchandise, while following all company policies and procedures. Responsibilities include maintaining store standards, cleanliness, and replenishment. The PBA supports the Sales Manager through a focus on performance (sales and events), people (guest service and team culture), and process (operating procedures and compliance). A passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and product knowledge are essential.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The PBA demonstrates Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values by performing the following duties:

Performance

  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, retail shrink, and omni-channel sales, especially in the prestige category and iconic brands.
  • Provide exceptional guest service by greeting, engaging, personalizing service, recommending products, and informing guests of promotions and events.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance guest experience.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver an outstanding guest experience and meet sales goals.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and ingredients to better serve guests.
  • Maintain prompt attendance.

People

  • Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
  • Collaborate with managers and peers to grow the business.
  • Participate in ongoing training to develop product knowledge and sales skills.

Process

  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies and standards.
  • Adhere to dress code.
  • Keep work areas replenished, signed, faced, and maintain hygiene standards for testers.
  • Participate in merchandise resets, inventory, and shipment processing.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program and protect company assets.
  • Perform other operational tasks as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Cosmetology, esthetician, or demonstrator’s license required where mandated by law.

Experience

  • 1 year of relevant work experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.

Skills

  • Passion and competency in prestige products, guest service, and selling.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Special Position Requirements

  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Attend meetings and conferences, including overnight stays.

Working Conditions

  • Mobility throughout the store during shifts.
  • Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and lifting (up to 10 lbs).
  • Continuous manipulation of objects.
