Job summary

Noveon Magnetics is seeking an Press Operator in Training (Night) to join our San Marcos, TX manufacturing team. This entry role provides hands-on learning in magnet press operations with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and timely production, growing into an advanced operator position under supervision.

You will work with seasoned operators to master die alignment, cycle times, and troubleshooting while maintaining accurate production records and complying with all PPE and safety

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine operation principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions and technical specifications.
  • Good math skills related to measurements and production quantities.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and assist in setting up, operating, and optimizing magnet press equipment.
  • Develop foundational understanding of press operation, powder handling, and compaction.
  • Monitor for issues like uneven powder distribution or equipment malfunctions.
  • Participate in training, coaching, and mentoring from senior operators.
  • Maintain production records and comply with safety protocols.

About this role

The Press Operator in Training (O.I.T) is a hands‑on role responsible for learning magnet press operations while ensuring safety, quality, and consistent production output. This position serves as a role to grow into an advanced operator role, supporting the qualified operators and Production Supervisor by providing daily operational assistance, learning troubleshooting and diagnostics, and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and production standards.

What You’ll Be Doing:
Press Operations & Technical Foundations
  • Learn and assist in the setting up, operating, and optimizing magnet press equipment, including die alignment, pressure settings, and cycle times to meet required magnet properties.
  • Developing a foundational understanding of press operation, powder handling, and compaction processes.
  • Learning to monitor and identify issues such as uneven powder distribution, pressure fluctuations, or equipment malfunctions.
Teamwork & Training
  • Receiving work priorities and daily direction from the shift lead or supervisor.
  • Participating actively in training, coaching, and mentoring from senior Press Operators on standard work, safety requirements, quality expectations, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Focusing on skill development and mastering standard manufacturing work.
  • Communicating effectively with Operators, Team Lead, Production Supervisors, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance to address issues and maintain production flow.
Quality & Troubleshooting
  • Learning to inspect pressed magnets for size, shape, density, and magnetic strength to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Developing skills to make basic machine adjustments to maintain consistent quality and reduce scrap.
  • Learning to diagnose/report common and complex press issues, including jams, misaligned dies, and pressure inconsistencies; elevate as needed.
Maintenance & Documentation
  • Performing routine and preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of press components.
  • Assisting Operators in identifying wear or potential failures and coordinating timely repairs with Maintenance.
  • Maintaining accurate production and quality records, including batch numbers, pressures, cycle times, and inspection results.
Safety & Housekeeping
  • Modeling and enforcing adherence to all safety protocols, including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and audit‑ready press area.
  • Promoting a strong safety culture and proactively addressing unsafe conditions or behaviors.
We are looking for someone who:
  • Has a High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Has 1 year of manufacturing experience, including press operation or similar precision equipment.
  • Can exhibit a strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine operation principles.
  • Can read and interpret work instructions, technical specifications, and quality requirements.
  • If proficient in basic math related to measurements, pressures, and production quantities.
  • Has a strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain consistent quality standards in a fast‑paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening, medical physical, and any required vision testing.
  • Able to move up to 50lbs.
  • Possesses manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately.
  • Can wear PPE.
  • Comfortable standing for long periods of time, up to and exceeding 60 minutes.
  • Is capable of making repetitive movements, including, but not limited to, sitting, squatting, and walking up and down stairs.
