Job summary

Mill Rock Packaging is seeking a Press Operator I for its Salt Lake City facility. You will handle changeovers and support the printing press during production, ensuring smooth operation and quality output.

The role requires coordinating stock, inks, and coatings, setting up feeders, and keeping the press running efficiently. This full-time position offers PTO, 401K contributions, comprehensive benefits, and 6:00 AM-6:00 PM shifts with a 3-day weekend cadence.

Qualifications

  • Possess a positive, can-do attitude to learn the job and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work together as part of a press team and understand impact on the whole production.
  • Open to feedback and growth in the position.
  • Basic computer skills, including keyboard/mouse use and simple software access.
  • Excellent endurance to stand and move throughout the shift.
  • Prior manufacturing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure stock matches the job ticket, verify caliper and tag placement.
  • Pull plates from holding area for next job and ensure availability.
  • Verify inks/coatings against ink cards and storage racks.
  • Set up feeder, double sheet detector, side guides, and material loading.
  • Hang plates and change blankets as assigned by the lead press operator.
  • Perform die/vinyl checks and dispose of make-ready materials properly.
  • Assist with press maintenance as scheduled.

MRP is searching for passionate and agile Press Operator I who is a problem-solver and excited by challenges and the opportunity to build something great with us. As a Press Operator I in the Press Department, you will be responsible for changeovers and keeping up with the general needs of the Printing Press during printing and changeover.

What will you do in this role?
  • Ensure that paper stock is correct according to the job ticket and Raw Stock Load Tag; that stock caliper is micrometer checked; and that Raw Stock Load Tag is placed in the job ticket.
  • Ensure that plates are pulled from holding area and available for next job.
  • Ensure that inks and/or coatings are pulled from storage racks and verified as correct to the ink card.
  • Set up feeder properly, as well as double sheet detector, side guide register and the loading of materials.
  • Hang plates and change blankets, as assigned by press operator.
  • Rule out press sheet and perform die vinyl checks, as required.
  • Dispose of make-ready material properly and separate recyclable material, per instructions.
  • Assist in maintenance requirements of presses, as scheduled.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements

  • Must have basic computer skills or the ability to learn basic skills, including the ability to type on a keyboard, use a mouse, enter passwords, open and close programs, and start and shut-down a computer.
  • Excellent endurance to stand and move about the work area all day.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment or job requiring physical work
Preferred Requirements
  • Prior experience in a printing or packing company.
  • GED or High School Equivalent
Physical Demands
  • Standing/Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 2 hours per shift).
  • Lifting/Carrying: Regularly lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Repetitive Motions: Frequent use of hands and arms for machine operation and material handling.
  • Visual/Manual Requirements: Ability to read gauges, color, measure materials, and perform quality checks.
Environmental Conditions
  • Noise Level: Exposure to moderate to high noise levels; hearing protection provided.
  • Safety Gear: Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and gloves required.
  • Other Factors: Exposure to dust, ink, or chemicals used in production.
Schedule & Work Hours

Full-time position; standard schedule is 6:00pm-6:00am 3 days/weekend Friday-Sunday (36 hours per week).
