Description

SUMMARY: The Press Operator apprenticeship on the press line is a four-year program. The apprentice will learn procedures for set-up, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting on all press line equipment, including safety protocols. Dependability, enthusiasm, cooperation, and efficiency are essential for continued participation. The apprentice must keep a work log and embody the company's core values and high-performance culture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn proper use of tools and mechanical methods
  • Understand and participate in safety rules and audits
  • Learn Lockout/Tagout procedures
  • Understand fire protection plans and participate in training
  • Maintain assigned maintenance schedules
  • Use work order and production tracking systems
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and organized
  • Report mechanical issues
  • Maintain and lubricate equipment
  • Make minor repairs to keep machinery operational
  • Follow instructions, take notes, ask questions, and be proactive
  • Use micrometers and general tools efficiently
  • Adhere to safety standards including SQF and GMPs
  • Assist wherever needed
  • Travel as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

Qualifications

Must be able to perform all duties satisfactorily. Requirements include:

  • Operate stacker on all lines
  • Recognize coating and litho defects
  • Be trained on forklift operation
  • Operate waxer and mix inks
  • Make plates and feed litho presses

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED; 1-3 months related experience or training; or equivalent. Mechanical ability and aptitude are required. Additional courses may be necessary, with successful completion needed to remain in the program.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write, and understand instructions and communicate effectively.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math operations and calculations involving rate, ratio, and percentage.

REASONING ABILITY: Apply common sense to follow instructions and solve problems involving concrete variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequently stand, walk, sit, handle objects, reach, climb, balance, and hear; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to moving parts, fumes, airborne particles, electrical shock risk, and vibration; noise level is usually loud.
