Job summary

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, repair, modify, and maintain dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and tooling.
• Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, mills, shapers, and grinders.
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and drawings to determine machining requirements.
• Measure and layout metal stock for machining.
• Calculate dimensions and plan machining operations.
• Inspect finished parts with precision instruments for conformance.
• Troubleshoot tooling issues and assist with repairs.
• Collaborate with Engineering and production to improve tooling performance.
• Assist others with complex setups and operations.
• Evaluate existing tools and recommend improvements.
• Develop specifications for specialty tooling as needed.
• Report non-conforming products or tooling issues.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow safety procedures.

Location: La Vergne, TN

Schedule: 2nd Shift, Monday-Friday, 2:30 PM-11:00 PM, with mandatory overtime as needed

Pay Rate: $26.00-$33.00 per hour, depending on experience

SURESTAFF is immediately hiring Tool & Die Makers I in La Vergne, TN!

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, repair, modify, and maintain dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, machine components, and other tooling.
• Set up and operate machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders.
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
• Measure, mark, and lay out metal stock for machining and fabrication.
• Calculate dimensions, determine assembly methods, and plan machining operations.
• Inspect completed parts using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions, alignment, clearances, and conformance to specifications.
• Troubleshoot tooling issues and assist with repairs to production equipment and specialized machinery.
• Work closely with Engineering and production personnel to maintain and improve tooling performance.
• Assist other Tool & Die Makers, Machinists, and Press Operators with complex setups and machining operations.
• Evaluate existing tools, dies, and fixtures and recommend modifications or improvements.
• Develop sketches or specifications for specialty tooling as needed.
• Identify and report non-conforming products or tooling issues.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Follow all company safety procedures, work instructions, and quality standards.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years of relevant Tool & Die, machining, or manufacturing experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience operating lathes, milling machines, grinders, or similar machining equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing specifications.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments.
• Basic mathematical skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and measurements.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately within production deadlines.
• Basic computer skills and effective communication skills.
• Ability to follow written, verbal, and technical instructions.
• Flexibility to work mandatory overtime as needed.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds.
• Ability to perform job duties in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels and some exposure to physical hazards.
• Must follow all required safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety-toe footwear, eye protection, hearing protection, and task-specific protective equipment.
