Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing is seeking an Industrial Electrician for the 2nd shift (2PM–10PM, Monday to Friday) at our Walker, MI plant. You will install, test, diagnose, and maintain electrical systems, read blueprints, and ensure compliance with local codes.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and several years of experience; a licensed journeyman is preferred. You will supervise apprentices and support safety and efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent and four years of experience as an industrial electrician.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to perform duties safely.
  • State Licensed Electrician / Journeyman Card holder preferred.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in manufacturing environments as an Industrial Electrician.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures per codes.
  • Diagnose malfunctions using test equipment and locate causes of breakdowns.
  • Plan layout and installation of wiring based on job specs and codes.
  • Direct and train apprentices to install and repair electrical systems.
  • Inspect systems to identify hazards and ensure safety and compliance.

Being part of an ESOP means our employee-owners share in Challenge’s success!Challenge is #QualityDriven and #PeoplePowered!Who We Want:This position is responsible for plant layout, alterations, additions and /or repairs of electrical systems, light fixtures, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the building.What You’ll Do:Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools consistent with local and national codes.Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.Maintain current state electrical license to meet governmental regulations.Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codesDirect and train apprentices to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.Run conduit inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications.Fasten small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets.Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects.Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services.Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights and generators, placing flares, and driving needed vehicles.When and Where:This will be a 2nd Shift / 2PM-10PM M-F position located at our Plant in Walker, MI.What You Need to Have:High School diploma or equivalent, plus four years of experience as an industrial electrician (required).Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English at a level sufficient to safely and effectively perform job duties, including following work instructions, safety procedures, and company communications.State Licensed Electrician / Journeyman Card holder (preferred).Minimum of three years' experience working in and/or servicing manufacturing environments as an Industrial Electrician (required).
