Associations West is seeking its next President & CEO to guide a storied nonprofit through recent mergers, continuing the mission with clear strategic direction and strong fiscal stewardship.
The CEO will report to the Board, lead operations, grow membership and engagement, and steward external relationships, while translating mission into measurable progress and representing the profession across the West.
Position Overview
AW’s next President & CEO will join an organization with a strong
history and mission, but also a clear leadership mandate given the
mergers over the past four years.
AW’s next President & CEO will report to the Board of Directors for
the overall strategic direction, financial health, future growth, and
operational leadership. The President & CEO, along with the Board,
will position the organization and the profession for the future,
increase membership and volunteer engagement, manage external
relationships with affiliated and adjacent organizations, and ensure
financial sustainability through disciplined execution and innovation.
The ideal candidate will serve as a visible, trusted voice for the
profession while aligning the board, staff, volunteers, and members
around a coherent long-term direction.
The President & CEO will be accountable for strategy implementation,
operations, financial stewardship, staff leadership, stakeholder
engagement, and external relationships. The role requires an
executive who can translate mission into measurable organizational
progress while balancing governance expectations, member needs,
market realities, and the future of the association management
profession in the West.
Externally, it requires credibility with members, allied organizations,
government agencies, and the broader association community, as
well as the ability to articulate why AW matters and where it should
lead next. The CEO is expected to position AW as a trusted voice on
issues affecting the association management community. Internally,
the position requires cultural stewardship, organizational alignment,
operational discipline, and staff empowerment.
