Job description

The client seeks a President & CEO to provide overall leadership, strategic vision, and executive management for a combined museum and visual arts education institution. The role will set direction for an inclusive, creative community that advances art education, public engagement, and the preservation and evolution of American art through collections, exhibitions, and programs. The President & CEO reports to the Board of Trustees and will inspire innovative initiatives to elevate the institution’s mission and impact.

As the institution implements a new strategic plan and advances a major historic capital project, the President & CEO will play a pivotal role in bringing the capital effort to life and supporting an ambitious fundraising campaign to sustain the work. Core responsibilities include strengthening governance and executive team culture; engaging the Board and key constituencies, including alumni and donors; and overseeing programming such as exhibitions, symposia, and cultural activities to broaden the museum’s profile and community reach. The role also includes providing leadership on senior executive roles, supervising aspects of museum exhibitions, and overseeing planning and management related to the institution’s collection activities in coordination with board committees.

The President & CEO will represent the client in local, regional, and national media, collaborate with governmental and community leaders, and further develop partnerships across cultural, academic, business, and community organizations. The role includes overseeing operations to support strong revenue growth, ensuring long-term financial health and sustainability, and expanding resource development by communicating the institution’s mission and story. The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate strategic and visionary leadership, with a proven ability to define and execute long-term goals and strategic plans while driving successful outcomes.
