Job summary

The Altamaha Stewardship and Fire Assistant Manager leads stewardship and fire operations on TNC preserves and partner lands in Georgia, directing conservation programs with emphasis on prescribed fire, including fireline leadership and supervision of interns and volunteers.

The role oversees budget, contracts, reporting, and coordination with partners; may supervise interns, maintain equipment, and support ecological restoration through timber management and longleaf pine restoration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management or related field and 3 years’ experience.
• FFT2 Qualification and ability to pass arduous pack test.
• Experience managing staff or volunteers.
• Strong relationship-building with diverse partners.
• Ability to work independently and meet timelines.
• Proficient in English; other languages a plus.
• Proficient with Word, Excel and common software.

Responsibilities

• Lead implementation of land management plans for Altamaha region.
• Write burn plans and direct prescribed burns with Burn Boss trajectory.
• Supervise seasonal staff, interns and volunteers; ensure safety and training.
• Manage contracts, budgets, reporting, and fundraising support.
• Maintain vehicles and equipment; coordinate with partners and landowners.
• Foster collaboration with public and private land managers for restoration.
