Job summary

Somerset Community Action Program is seeking a reliable Preschool Van Driver to safely transport preschoolers to and from the center and other approved locations. You will follow routes, adhere to schedules, and maintain high safety standards while engaging with children in a positive manner.

A CDL is preferred but not required; candidates without a CDL may be considered if they can safely operate a passenger van and meet transportation requirements. Background checks are required.

Qualifications

• CDL preferred but not required.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Must pass a state and federal background check.
• No recent accidents or significant traffic violations.
• Ability to stay calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow GPS directions and assigned routes.
• Experience working with young children is preferred.
• Commitment to student safety, professionalism, and punctuality.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport preschool-aged children to and from the center and designated locations.
• Follow all traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance concerns promptly.
• Ensure children are properly secured in age-appropriate safety restraints.
• Assist children with safely entering and exiting the vehicle.
• Maintain a safe, positive, and nurturing environment during transportation.
• Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and supervisors as needed.
• Keep accurate transportation records and attendance logs as required.
