Job description

We are expanding our programs, so we are looking to add to our team!

South Shore Stars is a not-for-profit organization providing high-quality early education and youth development programs for communities south of Boston. Founded in 1970, we serve over 1,200 children and youth annually, from newborns to 18 years old, across various settings including family child care, preschool centers, school-age centers, middle school programs, a high school program, and summer camp. Our mission is to support children's full potential through school readiness, academic achievement, healthy development, and family strengthening.

Position Overview

Teachers, as part of a classroom team under the supervision of a Lead Teacher, plan activities for small groups and individual children. In the absence of the Lead Teacher, the Teacher manages all classroom functions.

Programmatic Responsibilities
  • Maintain a stimulating, nurturing classroom environment.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and strategies.
  • Develop weekly plans for assigned small groups.
  • Complete required parent reports.
  • Organize and maintain classroom materials and equipment.
  • Participate in child assessments and develop individual plans.
  • Contribute to the annual classroom Action Plan.
  • Attend team meetings, curriculum discussions, and training sessions.
  • Support licensing and accreditation compliance.
  • Follow agency policies and document as required.
  • Communicate daily with the Lead Teacher about activities and concerns.
  • Complete professional development plans and attend trainings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Center Director.
Family Communication Responsibilities
  • Maintain open communication with families.
  • Conduct family conferences as required.
  • Participate in family events and support involvement activities.
Qualifications
  • AA in Early Childhood Education or AA/BA with 18 ECE credits.
  • At least one year of experience teaching young children.
  • Ability to successfully fulfill program responsibilities.
  • Classroom management skills.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and commitment to DAP.
  • Understanding of MA Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Experience with child assessment and data-driven planning.
  • Warm, nurturing personality.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Commitment to supporting low-income and at-risk children and families.

Reports to: Lead Teacher

Salary range: $22.87 - $26.88 per hour.
