Job Description

The district seeks to hire a Preschool Teacher II for the school-day/school-year preschool classroom at Victoria Soto School. The program is funded through the State Department of Education School Readiness Grant. The Preschool Teacher II will help plan and implement learning activities that promote the social, physical, and intellectual growth of preschool children in cooperation with other program staff, including a Preschool Teacher I. The Preschool Teacher II will work under the direction of the Preschool Supervisor.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Work with lead teachers in planning and preparing materials for children's learning activities.
  2. Conduct learning activities with children.
  3. Assist in assessing, recording, and reporting children's progress, and use assessment results to plan activities.
  4. Supervise children's activities to ensure their safety.
  5. Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly learning environment.
  6. Provide classroom coverage in the absence of the lead teacher.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Childhood Development (CDA) or equivalent (at least 12 college credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education). An Associate's Degree in Early Childhood plus two years of experience working with preschool children is preferred.
  • Successful teaching experience at early childhood and/or kindergarten levels.
  • Familiarity with the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards.
Other Requirements
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and medication certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Work is primarily in a classroom environment with a high level of activity; incumbent must be able to lift 40 pounds. Other physical demands as specified in the job description.
Terms and Compensation
  • Program operates on a school-day/school-year schedule — 186 days.

Hourly Rate: $20.00
