Salary Range: $27.13 - $29.48
Description

Family Development Services' full time Preschool Teacher will plan and implement developmentally and age-appropriate classroom activities for young children that will improve their literacy, numeric, language, cognitive, fine and gross motor skills; improve positive attitudes toward learning, social behavior and emotional well-being as well as their physical health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and emotionally supportive environment that encourages child autonomy, cultural expression, and developmental growth.
  • Implement engaging, multi-modal activities that support concept development, reasoning, and continuous feedback to maximize learning time.
  • Use proactive behavior strategies with clear expectations, redirection, and classroom management aligned with Head Start standards.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized classroom through daily health checks, hygiene practices, and supervision in all environments.
  • Deliver Head Start curriculum with fidelity through structured lesson plans, routines, and individualized instruction based on assessment data.
  • Conduct ongoing child assessments, maintain documentation, and meet CLASS benchmarks for instructional quality and classroom interactions.
  • Strengthen family engagement through home visits, conferences, volunteer coordination, and collaboration with family services staff.
  • Support experiential learning through supervised field trips and outdoor activities.
  • Participate in professional development, coaching, and self-assessment for continuous improvement.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Frequent typing, data entry, and close visual work.
  • Respond quickly to children’s needs and emergencies.
Qualifications

  • AA/AS in Early Childhood Education OR BA/BS in Early Childhood Education -OR- state awarded preschool teacher certification with experience teaching preschool aged children-OR- BA/BS in related fields with at least fifteen college courses in Early Childhood Education plus experience teaching preschool aged children. BA Highly preferred.
  • Physical exam and background checks are required for this position.
  • Travel required locally up to 10% of the time for work-related meetings and functions.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
