Who We Need
Abilities First is seeking Classroom Teachers for our Preschool program located in New Windsor, NY. This position is responsible, through the use of the integrated services model, for the assessment of each student’s individual needs, curriculum planning and development, carryover of therapy goals into the classroom setting and coordination of the classroom support staff.

Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am-3:00pm, 32.5 hours per week, 48 weeks per year (includes a 6-week summer program)

Pay Range: $27.15 - $32.00 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Assess developmental levels of students using standardized assessment tools and conduct ongoing assessments.
  • Plan and implement instructional programs tailored to each child's needs, including writing IEPs, progress notes, and weekly lesson plans. Maintain portfolios of student work.
  • Create and maintain a learning environment conducive to children's development, including space organization, material selection, scheduling, and behavior management.
  • Supervise and direct classroom support staff in educational activities and the use of classroom technology.
  • Coordinate with related service staff to implement therapy goals within the classroom.
  • Foster positive interpersonal communication with staff and professionals, maintaining a social-emotional climate that supports staff performance and children's self-esteem.
  • Engage with parents/guardians through various communication channels to share information and collaborate on educational goals.
  • Attend professional meetings and training, sharing knowledge and best practices with colleagues (minimum 30 hours every 2 years).
  • Participate in the Advisory Board and team meetings to support student development and program effectiveness.
  • Ensure student supervision is adequate and seek guidance when necessary.
  • Implement curriculum training and assessment tools as part of program delivery.
  • Adhere to ethical standards, legal requirements, and agency policies, including HIPAA and corporate compliance.
  • Incorporate CQL philosophy into daily operations and support agency mission and vision.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and evaluate staff performance regularly.
  • Continuously assess and improve internal systems for efficiency and accountability.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education with NYS Teaching Certification or Bachelor’s Degree with graduate coursework and provisional certification.
  • Ability to physically assist students, including lifting and positioning, with or without accommodation.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license acceptable by insurance.
