Volunteers of America-Greater New York seeks a Preschool Special Education Teacher for a 10-month school year on-site in the Bronx, NY. The teacher will implement The Creative Curriculum and align instruction to each Child's IEP goals in a nurturing early learning setting.

Required are an MS in Special Education and NYS certification in Special Education, with additional credentials for Students with Disabilities and Birth-Grade 2. Competitive benefits accompany a supportive, mission-driven team.

Qualifications

• M.S. in Special Education required.
• New York State certification in Special Education K-12 required.
• Initial or professional certification in Students with Disabilities and Birth-Grade 2 required.
• Internship or emergency COVID certificate accepted.
• Ability to implement The Creative Curriculum and NYC-aligned standards.

Responsibilities

• Implement The Creative Curriculum.
• Supervise teacher assistants in classroom.
• Write IEPs and monitor progress.
• Write annual IEP goals and quarterly progress reports.
• Implement instructional and behavioral strategies in the classroom.
• Collect and monitor data on behavior plans, IEPs and attendance.
• Attend CPSE meetings as needed.
• Make parent contacts and support transitions to home.
• Follow ELC policies and supervise classroom staff.

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following position:

Position: Preschool Special Education Teacher - School Year Work Schedule (10 Months/Paid over 26 pay periods)

The Teacher implements instruction based on The Creative Curriculum and Prekindergarten Performance Standards, NYC aligned with children's Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives. Adheres to the professional standards recommended by the National Association for the Education of Young Children to maintain accreditation.

Minimum Qualifications:

• M.S. in Special Education. New York State teacher certification in Special Education K-12, an internship or emergency COVID certificate, initial or professional certification in Students with Disabilities, Birth-Grade 2.

Teacher Principal Responsibilities:

• Implement the Creative Curriculum.
• Supervise the activities and assignment of the teacher assistants with individual children or groups of children in the classroom.
• Write Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and monitor children's progress in goal areas.
• Write annual IEP goals for children and Quarterly reports to parents on children's progress.
• Implement instructional (e.g., Applied Behavior Analysis, ESL) and behavioral (group and individual) strategies and methodology in the classroom.
• Collect and monitor data related to individualized behavior plans, IEPs, children's attendance, and other instructional and administrative areas as needed.
• Attend team meetings and CPSE conferences as needed.
• Make parent contacts, provide for transition of instruction to home, and invite parents for school visits.
• Implement the policies and procedures contained in the Early Learning Center manuals.
• Supervise classroom teacher assistants.
