Job summary

Willoughby-Eastlake City School District is seeking a Preschool Paraprofessional for Integrated Classroom. You will support students with daily activities, reinforce rules, and assist the teacher and substitutes throughout the day.

The role requires a one-year Educational Aide permit or equivalent, ParaPro assessment, or higher education credits (48 semester hours). Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work 7.5 hours daily, 9 months per year.

Qualifications

• This role requires meeting Step-up to Quality and preschool licensing requirements, including a medical form and PD.
• Ability to follow directions, reinforce class rules, and support teachers and students.
• Good verbal and written communication; able to improvise under stress.

Responsibilities

• Assist assigned students with physical tasks; must lift up to 50 pounds.
• Reinforce classroom rules in teacher's absence and assist substitutes.
• Support small groups with materials and academics introduced by the teacher.
• Provide behavior management reinforcement and supervise student transitions.
• accompany students to transportation; assist staff with field trips and classroom activities.
• Serve as a resource for the student evaluation team as needed.

Job description

Preschool Paraprofessional - Class I - Integrated Classroom

9 months/5 days per week/7.5 hours per day

8:00a.m. - 3:30p.m.

Hourly Rate of Pay: $19.23-$26.08

Primary Duties

• Assist student(s) to whom assigned in physical tasks as required (must be able to lift at least fifty pounds).
• reinforce class rules when teacher is absent.
• assist substitute teacher.
• listen to student recitations, readings and other curriculum tasks.
• work with small groups to reinforce materials/academics initially introduced by the teacher.
• reinforce behavior management techniques.
• accompany student(s) when trips to the office and/or school nurse are necessary.
• and serve as resource person, as requested, to the student evaluation team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned.
• Bathroom duties, etc. and other duties as assigned per the needs of the students.
• Responsible for getting students to and from transportation.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

This person must meet Step-up to Quality & Preschool licensing requirements, including medical form and required professional development. Must be able to follow instructions and project positive reinforcement; work well with others; relate to and work well with students; communicate with students, staff and the public, both individually and in group situations; good verbal and written skills desired; be able to improvise in difficult and/or unusual situations and be able to function under stress. Education/Training

The Ohio Department of Education requires a one-year Educational Aide permit. Applicants must also meet one State of Ohio requirement: Have passed the ParaPro Assessment Test, hold an Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or have completed at least 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours at an accredited college or university.
