Job description

Do you have a passion for helping children and families develop and reach their goals? Do you have experience delivering high-quality early childhood education and leading a classroom?

Community Action Head Start is looking for a caring Preschool Lead Teacher – School Year to join our team! This is a full-time position during the August through May school year, with the opportunity to sub hours in June and July. This position is eligible for insurance benefits throughout the 12-month calendar year!

This classroom leadership position will develop a comprehensive education program to support the social-emotional and developmental needs of our children for one of our preschool classrooms in our Head Start Program.

We are looking for someone that loves working with young children and is passionate about providing all the resources necessary to positively impact the development of children. Our team members have the unique opportunity to support children and families from at-risk backgrounds reach their goals and achieve success.

Starting Wage: $25.14 - 30.62/hour based on qualifications.

The Role:

  • Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate education program for children ages 3 years to 5 years that will enhance the social-emotional, physical, language, and cognitive development of each child.
  • Observe, assess and document each child’s health, skills, behavior, growth and development.
  • Develop effective partnerships with parents/caregivers by regularly sharing information and encouraging parent/caregiver input into all aspects of the educational program.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of classroom staff, including Associate Teachers and Teaching Assistants.
  • Develop individualized goals and educational plans for each child.
  • Foster positive relationships with all children in the classroom.
  • Provide training and mentoring to staff.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with the equivalent of an Early Childhood major required.
  • At least one year of experience working with young children and their families in a child care or related setting required.
  • Strong verbal and written proficiencies of the English language and communication skills required.
  • Sensitivity to the experiences, needs, and strengths of low-income and diverse populations, and individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to take initiative to continually improve service.
  • Knowledge of curriculum, principles and best practices of early childhood education.
  • Ability to work independently and with interdisciplinary teams to achieve shared program goals.
  • Commitment to building relationships with staff and families.
