Job summary

The City of Mountlake Terrace is seeking a part-time Recreation Leader II – Preschool Lead Teacher to plan and deliver developmentally appropriate activities for children ages 3 to 5 in a licensed childcare program.

You will lead daily preschool operations, supervise staff, and communicate with families while ensuring compliance with Washington licensing requirements and city policies. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Qualifications

• Age 18 or older.
• Three (3) years of prior experience working with preschool-aged children in a childcare, preschool, recreation, education, or similar setting.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Current WA State Food Handler Card.
• Completion of 30 hours of STARS Basic Licensing Guidebook within 6 months of hire unless exempt.
• Criminal background check and fingerprinting as required by DCYF.
• Mantoux TB skin test documentation prior to beginning employment.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and lead developmentally appropriate preschool activities for ages 3–5.
• Supervise children and monitor safety, health, behavior, and well‑being.
• Communicate professionally with parents and guardians regarding activities and concerns.
• Lead daily program operations and staff coordination while complying with licensing and city policies.
• Attend required meetings and training and perform other related duties.
