Job description

Summary: The ideal candidate will have a zeal for the education of young children. This position requires flexibility of schedules, creativity in lesson planning, a positive attitude and great social interaction skills.

Job description:
  1. Planning the environment:
    1. Maintain bulletin boards.
    2. Label cots/mats, maintain a cot/mat list and properly store cots/mats.
    3. Arrival on time for scheduled hours.
    4. Gather materials needed based on the lesson plan.
    5. Decorate the walls based on the interest of the children.
    6. Rotate toys and materials to keep children interested and engaged in activities.
    7. Keep the Administrator and/or Director informed of material needs and classroom situations.
    8. Understand and fulfill the NC Child Care requirements for room arrangement.
  2. Planning activities:
    1. Prepare lesson plans that foster a learning environment for indoor and outdoor play.
    2. Incorporate daily teachings of good morals and character.
    3. Use developmentally appropriate activities for infants and/or preschool children.
    4. Incorporate holidays and special occasions into planned activities in daily lessons.
    5. Prepare assessments of children.
  3. Interaction with children:
    1. Always supervise the children.
    2. Ensure the Bible is taught to all children, and they have an opportunity to receive Jesus as their Savior.
    3. Feed or serve the children nutritious meals.
    4. Feed the infants on an individual schedule.
    5. Participate with the children during group activities and individual activities.
    6. Ask children open-ended questions to foster creativity.
    7. Spend adequate time with each child.
    8. Regularly change diapers or pull-ups.
    9. Potty train the children.
  4. Communicating with the children, parents, and staff:
    1. Participate in regular parent-teacher meetings.
    2. Use vocabulary properly as a role model to the children.
    3. Share daily reports of childcare’s day with family members.
    4. Participate in staff meetings through mini teaching of center operations.
  5. Effective guidance of children:
    1. Use effective role modeling of proper behavior.
    2. Listen to the children to fully understand what they are expressing.
    3. Redirect children to keep them on task and to curtail negative behavior.
    4. Ask open-ended questions to assist the child in expressing themselves.
  6. Keeping the classroom clean and safe for the children:
    1. Assure the welfare, health, and safety of the children through proper supervision.
    2. Maintain housekeeping in the room: sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming.
    3. Wash, sanitize, and disinfect highchairs and changing tables after each use.
    4. Teach the children how to clean up after each activity.
    5. Teach the children how to properly care for the materials and toys.
    6. Pick up and remove any materials or toys that may be a hazard.
    7. Teach children fire and weather safety.
    8. Teach children how to carry out a safe fire and tornado drill.
  7. Maintain healthy classroom:
    1. Maintain first aid supplies in their classrooms.
    2. Wash and sanitize toys that were used by the children daily.
    3. Wash and sanitize furniture.
    4. Immediately remove toys from play that are put in a child's mouth.
    5. Inspect children when they arrive for sickness, infections, fever that may cause a health issue and record appropriately on the daily health check form.
    6. Teach the children the proper manner to wash their hands.
    7. Allow the children to wash their hands before and after bathroom use, before and after meals, upon arrival to the center, after outdoor play, after contact with body fluids, and after activities that their hands have been soiled.
    8. Maintain soapy water, sanitizer, and disinfectant in your classroom.
  8. Complete necessary paperwork concerning the children:
    1. Complete accurate daily attendance.
    2. Complete accurate daily transition forms.
    3. Prepare regular observations of each child.
    4. Prepare accurate incident reports.
    5. Maintain classroom files.
    6. Complete the point of service meal count according to CACFP program.
  9. Other responsibilities:
    1. Assist in training assistant teachers, volunteers, and substitutes.
    2. Complete annual in-service training hours.
    3. Comply with all policies of JWIN.
    4. Comply with all Div. of Child Development rules and policies.
    5. Participate in fundraising campaigns.
    6. Fulfill any other duties that the Administrator or Director may assign.
