POSITION SUMMARY

One City Schools, Inc is growing! Be a part of the Dream! We are hiring a child care lead teacher for our new infant and age 1 classroom for the 2024 - 2025 school year. We are seeking candidates who are dedicated to early childhood care and education, specifically providing a high level of care to the youngest children of the One City Staff members.

A successful teacher will want to work with One City Schools to help us grow one of the most unique and transformational public schools in Wisconsin. We are hiring Preschool Lead and Assistant Teachers (for infant and age 1) who are dedicated to cultivating and nurturing excellence in young children and providing them with a solid early learning foundation that prepares them to become the next generation of leaders, scholars, innovators, entrepreneurs, professionals, and community stewards to change the world for the better.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Interactions between Teacher and Children

  • Available and responsive to children, encouraging them to share experiences, ideas, and feelings.
  • Supports children’s social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and sociolinguistic development, assisting children to be comfortable, secure, happy, and involved in play, structured learning, and other activities.
  • Provides and maintains a creative and orderly classroom and school environment.
  • Models the care and upkeep of the classroom, play spaces, center materials, and other building space.
  • Keeps current in child development knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of One City Preschool’s educational program.
  • Assists in ongoing curriculum reviews, including offering feedback on implementation and program effectiveness.
  • Becomes acquainted with supplemental materials and services beneficial to students as an extension of regular classroom activities.

Instructional Skill

  • Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to One City’s philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Makes purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximizes time on task.
  • Plans and implements a program designed to meet individual needs of children.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to active learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies and inspires children’s enthusiasm for the learning process.
  • Monitors the learning and development of each child and provides progress reports as required.
  • Works cooperatively with designated outside support staff and supervises volunteers.
  • Recognizes learning challenges and makes referrals and interventions as appropriate.
  • Uses effective oral and written expression.
  • Evaluates accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods.
  • Makes appropriate adjustments in the instructional program as required by the Preschool Director.

Child Guidance

  • Develops, in accordance with One City and state licensing guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Shares responsibility during the day for the supervision of students in all areas of the center.

Family Connections

  • Builds and maintains positive and engaging relationships with parents.
  • Works cooperatively with families to strengthen the educational program for their children.
  • Respects each family’s uniqueness and advocates for children and families.

Professionalism

  • Respects and honors the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, families, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics and state and federal laws.
  • Continued professional growth through participation in professional development opportunities offered by One City and other reputable institutions; and attends team, staff, and committee meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Preschool Director.

ROLE SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of One City, and to working with young children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with young children preferred, but not required.
  • Bilingual Spanish is a plus, but not required.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive.
  • Ability to regularly and routinely lift and push at least 50 pounds.
  • Member of the Wisconsin Child Care Registry.
  • Completion of a background check required.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
