Job summary

Steamboat Springs School District RE-2 seeks a Preschool Instructor Long Term Substitute at Strawberry Park Elementary School from 11/01/2026 to 06/03/2027. This hourly position typically runs 35–40 hours per week with a pay range of $29.28–$33.65 per hour.

You will support developmentally appropriate activities and early learning goals. SSSD emphasizes Accredited with Distinction and a collaborative, family‑centered approach.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education and 12 months (1820 hours) of direct child care experience.
• Able to sit/stand/walk with students and lift/move objects up to 50 pounds.
• Proficiency with basic computer skills, MS Office and Google Suite.

Steamboat Springs School District is seeking aqualified Preschool Instructor Long Term Substitute at Strawberry Park Elementary School 11/01/2026-06/3/2027.

PAY RANGE INFORMATION:

This is a classified, hourly position, generally scheduled for 35-40 hrs/week. Based on a maximum of 10years of experience, $29.28 - $33.65.

This is a limited term position 11/01/2026-06/03/2027.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Classroom preparation and management at the beginning and end of each day as well as the beginning and end of the school year (organizing supplies, cleaning rooms and equipment as needed)
• Plan unit themes and help prepare materials for all projects
• Create and prepare the learning environment in the classroom and outdoors to support learning
• Work with individual and small group instruction in the classroom
• Communicate throughout the day with parents using technology (meals, diapering/potty, nap, photos, etc)
• Have strong classroom management skills; maintain discipline of groups of young students
• Support, implement, and document objectives for Teaching Strategies GOLD
• Assess students three (3) times throughout the school year in preparation for Parent-Teacher conferences
• Conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences as scheduled and as needed.
• Implement an individual behavior plan and work with early learning interventionists as needed
• Plan, prepare and implement a curriculum (lessons, activities, trips, etc) that is developmentally appropriate, in accordance with the SSSD preschool program.
• Support children and families with potty training
• Completion of monthly and daily differentiated lesson plans using thematic and curriculum learning methods; communicate these plans to lead teacher/director.
• Be familiar with all health and emergency policies of the program and be ready to implement them if necessary. Be familiar with Colorado Minimum Rules and Regulations for Child Care Centers.
• Maintain and/or oversee the maintenance of portfolios for each child, including observations, checklists and samples of his/her work, and other required classroom assessments and routine forms.
• Attend all required staff meetings and recommended training programs (no less than 15 hours per year) and conferences; provide the school office manager with documentation in accordance with state requirements.
• Be flexible and willing to work with children of all ages if necessary, including supervision, play, teaching, cleaning, support with self-help skills (eating, toileting, dressing, etc)
• Create and implement individual learning plans for all students.
• Work with Nurse to ensure appropriate training of staff and review of medical needs for students.
• Ability to work cooperatively on a team with other professionals
• Able to work independently without direct supervision
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students, staff, coworkers, administrators and parents.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate's Degree in ECE (Director qualified) with 12 months (1820 hours) of verified experience working directly with children in a child development program. Or 30 semester credits with specific courses for Director qualifications with 24 months of verified experience working directly with children in a child development program.
• Adequate mobility to perform the following tasks: sit/stand walk with students, catching running students, lift moving objects
• Possess sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform responsibilities as described
• Proficiency in basic computer skills, MS Office and Google Suite.
• Must be able to complete minimum on-line and in person training programs required prior to working with students

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, discounts, commissions, proportions, percentage, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract concrete variables. Ability to analyze and use data to supervise the delivery of instruction and the school improvement process.

Technology Skills: Proficient use of technology which includes: basic operations and concepts, word processing, spread sheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email, integration of technology.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to copy, coordinate, instruct, evaluate and negotiate. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to discipline students consistent with district procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is continuously required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Able to run, respond quickly, and reach to ensure student safety and response to unplanned movements.
