Job Summary

Position Title: Floating Teaching Assistant/Aide

Program: Thrive to Five

Classification: Non-Exempt/Full-Time

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Educational Services
  • Promote cognitive development and learning dispositions in all children.
  • Assist with implementing Creative Curriculum, Lancaster County Head Start’s Daily Structures, and instructional strategies in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Plan lessons as needed.
  • Follow schedules, daily routines, and lesson plans of each classroom.
  • Prepare classrooms.
  • Use responsive language with children.
  • Participate in individualized instruction for children with disabilities and individual needs.
Health and Safety
  • Promote healthy growth and habits in children and provide a safe environment.
  • Follow all safety and health procedures as outlined by regulatory standards (DHS, STARS, EHS, or Head Start Performance standards).
  • Provide adequate supervision of children at all times as defined in Thrive to Five policies and procedures.
  • Follow all meal service standards as outlined by CACFP.
  • Follow all guidance to prevent the spread of illness, including daily health checks, use of gloves and masks, etc.
  • Use meal and snack times to teach about health, sanitation, and proper nutrition.
  • Assist in ensuring all children receive required dental, vision, hearing, and BMI screenings under the guidance of the lead teacher and the Health and Safety manager.
  • Teach children proper safety skills such as tooth brushing, hand washing, and using tissues.
  • Follow procedures when assisting children with toileting or diaper changes.
  • Supervise and assist children during rest time, following safe sleep procedures for infants and supervising older children appropriately.
Social Emotional
  • Implement PBIS universal practices established by Thrive to Five.
  • Teach and model social-emotional skills and practices.
  • Implement interventions with support from intra/inter agency teams.
  • Maintain current knowledge about challenging behavior and mental health concerns.
  • Implement behavior support plans as needed.
  • Follow the responsive scale of discipline.
Family Engagement
  • Facilitate respectful, mutually supportive relationships with families.
  • Provide a welcoming environment for families and promote parent/child activities.
  • Maintain rapport and mutual trust with the classroom team.
  • Provide updates on classroom closures.
Professionalism
  • Follow all CAP and Thrive to Five policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Demonstrate CAP Values.
  • Work with the Early Learning Coordinator to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Reflect on coaching feedback and set professional development goals.
  • Develop strategies to resolve interpersonal problems affecting program operation.
  • Attend mandatory trainings, workshops, and meetings.
  • Maintain required certifications and licenses.
  • Respond promptly to communications.
  • Participate in committee work as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
Minimum Qualifications for an Aide:
  • A high school diploma or GED.
Minimum Qualifications for an Assistant:
  • A high school diploma or GED with 2500 hours of experience with children.
  • 30 college credits in education or related fields.
  • OR a combination of experience and education equivalent to PA’s Department of Human Services Assistant Group Supervisor qualifications.

Must meet preferred qualifications within a year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Child Development Associate credential or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
