Job Summary
Position Title: Floating Teaching Assistant/Aide
Program: Thrive to Five
Classification: Non-Exempt/Full-Time
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Educational Services
- Promote cognitive development and learning dispositions in all children.
- Assist with implementing Creative Curriculum, Lancaster County Head Start’s Daily Structures, and instructional strategies in accordance with program guidelines.
- Plan lessons as needed.
- Follow schedules, daily routines, and lesson plans of each classroom.
- Prepare classrooms.
- Use responsive language with children.
- Participate in individualized instruction for children with disabilities and individual needs.
Health and Safety
- Promote healthy growth and habits in children and provide a safe environment.
- Follow all safety and health procedures as outlined by regulatory standards (DHS, STARS, EHS, or Head Start Performance standards).
- Provide adequate supervision of children at all times as defined in Thrive to Five policies and procedures.
- Follow all meal service standards as outlined by CACFP.
- Follow all guidance to prevent the spread of illness, including daily health checks, use of gloves and masks, etc.
- Use meal and snack times to teach about health, sanitation, and proper nutrition.
- Assist in ensuring all children receive required dental, vision, hearing, and BMI screenings under the guidance of the lead teacher and the Health and Safety manager.
- Teach children proper safety skills such as tooth brushing, hand washing, and using tissues.
- Follow procedures when assisting children with toileting or diaper changes.
- Supervise and assist children during rest time, following safe sleep procedures for infants and supervising older children appropriately.
Social Emotional
- Implement PBIS universal practices established by Thrive to Five.
- Teach and model social-emotional skills and practices.
- Implement interventions with support from intra/inter agency teams.
- Maintain current knowledge about challenging behavior and mental health concerns.
- Implement behavior support plans as needed.
- Follow the responsive scale of discipline.
Family Engagement
- Facilitate respectful, mutually supportive relationships with families.
- Provide a welcoming environment for families and promote parent/child activities.
- Maintain rapport and mutual trust with the classroom team.
- Provide updates on classroom closures.
Professionalism
- Follow all CAP and Thrive to Five policies, procedures, and systems.
- Demonstrate CAP Values.
- Work with the Early Learning Coordinator to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
- Reflect on coaching feedback and set professional development goals.
- Develop strategies to resolve interpersonal problems affecting program operation.
- Attend mandatory trainings, workshops, and meetings.
- Maintain required certifications and licenses.
- Respond promptly to communications.
- Participate in committee work as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
Minimum Qualifications for an Aide:
- A high school diploma or GED.
Minimum Qualifications for an Assistant:
- A high school diploma or GED with 2500 hours of experience with children.
- 30 college credits in education or related fields.
- OR a combination of experience and education equivalent to PA’s Department of Human Services Assistant Group Supervisor qualifications.
Must meet preferred qualifications within a year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Child Development Associate credential or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
