Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a Counselor I to help support the preschool program, working with the Counselor II to provide a nurturing learning environment for young children.

You will supervise children, implement age-appropriate activities, and collaborate with staff to ensure safety, engagement, and development across cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and language domains. Commitment to our culture and program excellence is required.

Qualifications

• Functional Expertise expected in YMCA settings.
• Program & Project Management skills applicable to early childhood programs.
• Developing Self and Others as part of staff growth.

Responsibilities

• Supervision and safety of children at all times and adherence to safety protocols.
• Assist program leaders in delivering developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
• Engage children in meaningful play and foster exploration, creativity and learning.
• Support positive behavior guidance and social skills development.
• Communicate with children, families, staff and leadership; provide feedback on progress.
• Participate in training and professional development.
