Job description

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Under the immediate supervision of the Camp/Program Director, the Leader assists with the daily operations and administrative responsibilities of a camp/program for children ages 2.5-6.

DUTIES:

  1. Accept responsibility for the physical safety and emotional well being of the children.
  2. Ensure children are properly supervised and accurate attendance is always maintained.
  3. Communicate clearly and courteously with school personnel, center staff, specialized camp/program staff, parents, junior counselors and children.
  4. Assist in planning a well-rounded camp/program of recreational activities including music, games, drama, arts and crafts, social activities and special events. Implement the camp/program as posted on the weekly calendar.
  5. Report accidents, property damage, or major disciplinary problems to the director.
  6. Assist in setting up and taking down equipment and cleaning up area daily. Maintain cleanliness of the center, including picking up trash, sweeping floor daily, etc.
  7. Pick up snacks and supplies from the Department’s warehouse.
  8. Wear required HCRP staff shirt and nametag at all times. Wear appropriate closed toed shoes for activities (no flip flops unless approved by Program Supervisor/Coordinator).
  9. All other duties as assigned.

Administrative Requirements:

  1. Assist in securing Participant Information Form for each child.
  2. Assist with preparing weekly calendar and post on site.
  3. Ensure that parents sign children in and out each day. Maintain accurate attendance sheet at all times.
  4. Assist with preparation of camp/program newsletter.
  5. Complete accident/incident reports accurately and turn into director.
  6. Document and notify director with any concerns regarding staff or children.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  1. Must be 16 years old.
  2. Ability to effectively meet the social, emotional and physical needs of children.
  3. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with parents, peers and participants.

EXPERIENCE:

Prefer paid experience working with children.

EDUCATION:

Minimum two (2) years of High School. College coursework preferred.

RATE OF PAY:

Salary commensurate with experience. Contingent – Paraprofessional. Minimum wage $20/hour.
