Job summary

Bank Street College of Education invites applications for an Associate Teacher at the Bank Street Family Center in New York. Under supervision, you will implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and model positive interactions to foster a supportive learning environment.

You will collaborate with the lead teacher, communicate with families, assist in documenting progress, and participate in meetings and trainings to promote growth and professional development in a dynamic early childhood

Qualifications

• Must be working towards or have earned a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education
• Must qualify for New York State Education Department Assistant Teacher Certification
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of children during all activities.
• Assist in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that supports and stimulates each child's individual development.
• Assist in carrying out stimulating lesson plans promoting exploration, creativity, and discovery.
• Assist in working with parents to promote understanding of growth and development of their child.
• Effectively communicate with parents, verbally, and in writing, throughout the year.
• Assist in writing classroom blogs/newsletters, parent/teacher conference reports and daily notes.
• Assist in documenting and maintaining student records including, but not limited to, reports about areas of development and growth, and areas of concerns, if applicable.
• Attend all required trainings, supervisory meetings and other professional development workshops.
• Engage in reflective supervision with the lead teacher and, when appropriate, support the building of a collaborative relationship between the lead teacher and faculty advisor.
• Participate in parent/teacher conferences and parent meetings both during regular working hours and, at times, before and after regular working hours.
• Assist in maintaining a clean and safe classroom environment.
• Work cooperatively with other teachers, therapists and administrators.
• Ensure that all Bank Street College and NYC Department of Health/Bureau of Day Care guidelines are followed.
• Other duties as assigned by Director.
