Job description

Are you passionate about shaping young minds and creating a nurturing environment for children and their families? We are looking for a dedicated individual to join our Early Childhood Education team as an Associate Teacher. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in the growth and development of children while supporting our mission to provide high-quality education and care.

We would love to hear from someone who :

  • Has semester units ECE / CD, with a grade C or better, or CDA Credential or CTC.
  • Has 6 months related experience with children ages 0-5 years of age.
  • Has a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher.
  • HS / EHS / MSHS / State-Braided Associate Teachers must also meet at least one of the following criteria :
  • Have a child development associate (CDA) credential or the California equivalent of a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit at time of hire (12 ECE semester units including core courses; and for EHS and infant/toddler classrooms must also have 6 infant/toddler semester units) OR
  • Be enrolled in a CDA credential program that will be completed within 2 years; OR
  • Have an associate or bachelor's degree (in any area) or be enrolled in a program leading to such a degree.

As an Associate Teacher, you will :

  • Provide care and education for children ages 0-5, ensuring a positive and engaging learning experience.
  • Collaborate with the Center Supervisor and Teachers to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Assume the responsibilities of a Teacher in their absence, guiding and supporting instructional assistants, parents, and volunteers.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and nurturing environment for all children.
  • Assist in planning and executing educational activities that promote child development.
  • Participate in physical activities with children, including games, music, and outdoor play.
  • Assist with bus supervision, ensuring the safety and engagement of children during transportation.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications :

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the date of hire.
  • Must submit proof of current vaccination status for measles, pertussis, and influenza (or a current, signed influenza declination form) in compliance with SB 792.
  • Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or signing a COVID-19 vaccination declination form.
  • Must complete a health screening physical within 30 days prior to employment and a current TB skin test / Chest X-Ray.
  • Employment is contingent upon meeting all job and background requirements, including criminal history checks (DOJ, FBI, Child Abuse), acknowledgment of child abuse reporting responsibility, and criminal record statement (Form LIC508). A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment.
  • Agency staff will check Megan’s Law (or the current sexual predator website) upon hire and annually to ensure clearance for employment.
  • Must meet Head Start Performance Standards and State requirements.
  • Employment in Head Start, Early Head Start, and Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Programs is contingent upon approval of the Policy Council.
