Job summary

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Lexington is seeking a Preschool Assistant Teacher to join Good Shepherd Preschool Academy. You will help create a joyful, engaging, and nurturing learning environment for young children, supporting teachers across classrooms and age groups.

This role emphasizes teamwork, professional growth, and consistent communication with families. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 7 am to 3 pm, with health and safety procedures guiding daily activities.

Qualifications

• Background checks required by state and Diocese of Lexington.
• Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience working in childcare, daycare, preschool, or a related setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with hands-on learning activities tailored to each child's development.
• Maintain open, positive communication with parents about daily activities and milestones.
• Keep classrooms safe, clean, and welcoming by following required procedures and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assist with hands‑on learning activities that meet the needs, interests, and developmental levels of the children.
• Maintain open and positive communication with parents, sharing their child's daily experiences, milestones, and accomplishments.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming classroom by following all required procedures and guidelines.
• Provide classroom support and teaching coverage in various classrooms and age groups as needed.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and staff to provide a positive and nurturing environment for every child.

Hours Monday - Friday 7 am - 3 pm.

Physical and Safety Requirements

This position requires the employee to comply with all applicable federal, state, local, Good Shepherd Preschool Academy, and diocesan requirements concerning immunizations, employment physicals/screenings, and health and safety training.

• Frequently lift, carry, or hold children weighing approximately 40 pounds or less and occasionally lift, carry, or hold children or other items weighing more than 40 pounds.
• Demonstrate a full range of motion, including the ability to lift, reach, squat, climb, sit, and fully participate in activities with children.
• Respond quickly and appropriately to multiple, unexpected, or emergency situations.
• Maintain the mental and physical alertness and energy necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
