Job summary

YMCA of Mankato is seeking a Preschool Aide to support the Lead and Assistant Teachers in delivering quality preschool programs. You will help implement daily activities, supervise children, and maintain a safe classroom aligned with YMCA values.

The role requires CPR/First Aid/AED certifications, Child Abuse prevention training, and a strong commitment to developing young children in a diverse setting. Part-time hours and a 10–30 hour workweek are available.

Qualifications

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and Shaken Baby Certificate.
  • Child Abuse prevention training completed.
  • Commitment to quality child care and safety.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with children in a developmental setting.
  • Experience working with diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing daily preschool curriculum within established guidelines.
  • Supervise children, classroom, and activities.
  • Contribute to activity preparation, cleanup and room maintenance.
  • Maintain preschool room and equipment.
  • Attend program activities, staff meetings, and trainings.
  • Follow YMCA policies including Child Abuse Prevention.
  • Engage in activities that may include running, throwing, and swimming.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Work hours Monday–Friday, up to 5pm.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of children.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Preschool Aide provides assistance to the Preschool Lead Teacher and Assistant Teacher in implementing preschool programs. The incumbent assists with carrying out the preschool mission and values by providing high quality preschool services to children and parents that focus on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / JOB DUTIES


  • Assists with the implementation of daily curriculum within the established guidelines.

  • Assists in supervising the children, classroom and all activities.

  • Contributes to activity preparation, clean up and room maintenance.

  • Maintains the preschool room and equipment.

  • Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings and staff trainings.

  • 6. Follow all YMCA policy and procedures including Child Abuse Prevention.

  • 7. Lead and participate in activities that may include running, throwing, kicking and swimming.

  • 8. Lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • 9. Never been convicted of any child abuse including sexual abuse.

  • 10. Able to work until 5pm M-F.

  • 11. Able to work 10-30hrs a week.


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Meet Minnesota DHS Rule 3 Teacher Aide qualifications, including yearly in service requirements.

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, Child Abuse prevention training, and Shaken Baby Certificate.

  • Strong commitment to quality child care.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

  • A commitment to working with children in a developmental setting and a sincere desire to have a meaningful effect on their lives.

  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs). Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. The ability to calmly and effectively react in an emergency situation.
