Prep School Ceramics Teacher (Leave Replacement)

Job Summary

Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School seeks a dynamic ceramics instructor to teach introductory courses and specialized electives to grades 9-12. This is a temporary leave replacement position that will begin in September 2025.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach sections of 9th Grade Art (focus: design and basic ceramic techniques), Ceramics & Sculpture I, II & III and Advanced Projects in Ceramics.
  • Provide individual feedback, support student growth, and foster a supportive, inclusive environment.
  • Assist with assessments and narrative report cards.
  • Foster an understanding and appreciation for ceramics and sculpture history and theory through class critiques, discussions, and projects.
  • Run well-managed, meaningful, and engaging classes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced high school ceramics students.
  • Help students formulate individualized projects that develop their own style and express their personal interests.
  • Work closely with colleagues, the department head, and prep school administration to support the academic, social, and emotional well-being of all students.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Divisional Director.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Ceramics, or a related discipline; an Art Education degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrates experience in hand building, wheel throwing, glazing, and firing electric kilns.
  • Experience teaching at the high school or college level is preferred.

Work Hours

  • 7:45 am - 3:30 pm Monday through Friday
  • Weekly faculty and department meetings until 4:30 pm
  • Start Date: September 2025 (exact date to be determined)

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $71,000 - $118,500 annually based on completed degree programs and years of experience. We also offer a warm and supportive culture as well as exceptional benefits including but not limited to:
