POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for performing a variety of duties in the Dietary Department to ensure the area is kept clean and all services are accomplished in a customer-friendly environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Pantry/Prep Cook Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Gather all foods needed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner meals by following the menu.
- Work directly with the chef and receive assignments for the day.
- Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare them for consumption.
- Bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods.
- Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils.
- Plate food in an attractive manner.
- Able to lift, unload, and move food and supplies; lift dishes to storage locations.
- Work independently or assist others in cleaning all items used in the preparation and serving of meals.
- Use kitchen equipment safely by operating electrical and mechanical devices.
- Maintain appropriate inventory of food and supplies.
- Proficiency in vegetable scullery, preparing cold foods, light baking, and basic entry-level cooking skills.
Serving Line Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Making tea and coffee; cleaning coffee machines in healthcare setting.
- Working on tray line, setting up trays with utensils, napkins, condiments, reading and calling out diet cards, some bending over for trays, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
- Placing plates, desserts, and drinks on trays, then placing them on carts; some bending is required.
- Cleaning area, putting away milk, juice, empty tea urns, and cleaning.
- Retrieving trays and trash from the floor, assisting with washing dishes and trays, sweeping, mopping floors, and lifting trash cans.
Other Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Report all unusual conditions, behaviors, and resident reactions to appropriate licensed personnel promptly.
- Respond in a kind, polite, and professional manner to residents, families, visitors, coworkers, and supervision.
- Protect confidential information concerning residents, families, and the organization.
- Follow all safety procedures and facility protocols for fire, disaster, and bomb threats.
- Adhere to organizational, departmental, and nursing procedures relevant to the position.
- Attend scheduled organizational or departmental meetings and in-services.
- Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the job requirements.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- One or more years of experience in a full-service kitchen (non-fast food) preferred.
