Job summary

Cedarfield is seeking a full-time Prep Cook for a 6:00am - 2:30pm shift in a care setting. The role focuses on processing raw foods for recipe production, maintaining sanitation, and assisting in menu item preparation for independent living and health services.

The position requires basic kitchen knowledge, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and adherence to health regulations. Weekend/evening work and potential overtime are common.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of general kitchen and ingredient offerings to perform entry-level duties in preparation and presentation of menu at community.
  • Knowledge of food production, preparation techniques, including sanitation and storage.
  • Knowledge of Health Department Regulations related to food storage, preparation, and services in a commercial kitchen and CCRC.
  • Ability to use and maintain kitchen equipment.
  • Able to read, write and communicate using the English language.
  • Ability to taste and smell.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Process raw food items for recipe production.
  • Report repair and maintenance needs to Production Manager.
  • Assist in washing and restocking of all china, glassware, and silverware as needed.
  • Assist in the production of menu items for both independent living and health Sesvices production.
  • Maintains a high standard of quality in food preparation, portion control, and serving.
  • Maintains proper food storage of all foods by sealing, labeling, and dating items before placing in refrigerator or freezer (date and description).
  • Reviews and follows menus procedures and shall make changes only in consultation with the chef or Director of Dining Services.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all knives and utensils are clean, sanitized, and properly stored when not in use and held in a sanitizing solution when at a workstation between uses.
  • Wiping cloths in use for wiping counters and other equipment surfaces shall be free of food debris and visible soil. Wiping clothes are held in a chemical sanitizer solution between uses.
  • Maintains proper sanitation and safety of food preparation area and equipment. Handles and prepares food in accordance with departmental and regulatory guidelines.
  • Makes daily inspection of work area assuring sanitation and safe working conditions.
  • Washes and cleans utensils and equipment utilized in production.
  • Attends all required meetings, training and inservices.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
  1. High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  2. No licensure required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  1. Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  2. Extensive walking, bending, stooping, standing, pulling, pushing, and carrying.
  3. Exposure to heat and cold.
  4. Working on weekends, evenings, holidays, and during inclement weather are required.
  5. Exposure to the sights, sounds, smells of a typical healthcare environment including interacting with persons having dementia.
