HOURS: 7a-3p or 10a-8p. This is a part-time position that requires working weekends.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for performing a variety of duties in the Dietary Department to ensure the area is kept clean and all services are accomplished in a customer-friendly environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Panty/Prep Cook Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Gather all foods needed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner meals by following the menu.
  2. Work directly with the chef and receive assignment for the day.
  3. Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare them for consumption.
  4. Bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods.
  5. Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
  6. Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils.
  7. Plate food in an attractive manner.
  8. Able to lift, unload, and move food and supplies; lift dishes to storage location.
  9. Required to work independently or aid others in the cleaning of all items used in the serving and preparation of the meals.
  10. Use kitchen equipment safely by operating electrical and mechanical equipment.
  11. Maintain appropriate inventory of food and supplies.
  12. Proficiency in vegetable scullery, preparing cold foods, light baking, and basic entry-level cooking skills.

Serving Line Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Making tea and coffee, cleaning coffee machines in health care.
  2. Working on tray line, setting up the trays with utensils, napkins, condiments, reading and calling out the diet cards, some bending over for tray and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  3. Putting plates, desserts, and drinks on tray then put on cart; some bending is required as well.
  4. Cleaning area and putting away milk, juice, empty tea urns, and cleaning.
  5. Retrieve trays and trash from floor, help washing dishes, trays, and sweep and help with mopping floor; must be able to lift trash cans.

Other Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Reports all unusual conditions, behaviors, and/or resident reactions to the appropriate licensed personnel in a timely manner.
  2. Responds and reacts in a kind, polite, and professional manner to residents, families, visitors, coworkers, and supervision.
  3. Responsible for protecting any confidential information concerning residents, family, and/or the organization.
  4. Must demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to all safety procedures and facility fire, disaster, and bomb threat procedures.
  5. Adheres to all organizational, departmental, and nursing procedures in the performance of position responsibilities.
  6. Must attend organizational or departmental conferences and/or in-services as scheduled.
  7. May be required to perform other duties in keeping with the nature of this position which will not significantly alter the job requirements.

Education and/or Experience:

  1. High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  2. One or more years of experience in a full-service kitchen (non-fast food) is preferred.
