POSITION OVERVIEW

Prep Cooks perform various food preparation, cooking, and cleaning tasks to ensure the kitchen remains efficient in creating and delivering dishes for patrons. They are responsible for ensuring cleanliness, sanitation, and safety in and out of the work area while minimizing waste and maximizing cost/production ratio. They must ensure that food is fresh and stored at the correct temperature to avoid spoilage. They must complete all tasks in order on the prep list, correctly label and stock all ingredients on easily accessible shelves, wash, chop, and sort ingredients like fruits, vegetables, and meats, measure quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredients, parboil food, reduce sauces, and complete first steps in various dishes. They may also clean dishes, wash cooking utensils and cookware, take out trash, and sanitize the work area. They must adhere to all relevant nutrition and sanitary regulations and company standards, keep track of ingredient inventory, and collaborate with other staff and management to order re-supply.

RATE OF PAYFull-time, hourly $21.00 per hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform opening and closing duties according to established checklist.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of menus and the preparation required according to standards.
  • Prep food for service each day.
  • Label and stock all ingredients on easily accessible shelves.
  • Wash, chop, and sort ingredients like fruits, vegetables, and meats.
  • Measure quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredients.
  • Keep station and work area clean throughout the shift.
  • Stock the workspace area with all necessary ingredients before each shift.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the proper uniform and nametag when working.
  • Comply with Timber’s standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all storage areas.
  • Attend meetings and training as required by management.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
  • Assist other crew members in operational functions as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to)

  • Food safety knowledge to safely serve guests – cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
  • Preparing food with accuracy and speed.
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Restock to keep par levels of products before, after, and throughout the shift.
  • Keep workspace area properly organized daily.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or related field is preferred.

Experience: Minimum 1 year cooking experience, former prep/line cook/fry cook with food service preferred.

Required: Must have a valid driver’s license; a motor vehicle background check will be completed. Food Handlers Certification (must comply with State regulations).

WORKING CONDITIONS - PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Working in a confined space with exposure to hot kitchen environments on a daily basis.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Work in different types of weather, including high temperatures.
  • Operate a variety of equipment specific to the kitchen, along with safety equipment such as fire extinguishers.

HOURS REQUIRED: 40 hours per week, flexible schedule, will be required to work weekends and/or holidays.
