Job Title: Prep Cook Salary: Competitive, based on experience Reports To: Kitchen Manager

Position Overview

The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients and supporting various kitchen tasks to assist the kitchen team. This role includes washing, chopping, and preparing food items, ensuring that all ingredients are readily available for meal preparation. The Prep Cook is a key player in maintaining the kitchen’s workflow and overall efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, and cutting as required by recipes.

Accurately measure and portion ingredients to ensure consistency in preparation and cooking.

Assist with basic cooking tasks under the direction of the kitchen staff.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep stations and kitchen areas.

Set up workstations with the necessary equipment and ingredients at the start of each shift.

Monitor ingredient stock levels and inform the kitchen manager or chef when supplies are low.

Follow food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring the safe handling and storage of ingredients.

Assist with additional kitchen tasks as needed to support efficient operations.

Dispose of waste and clean kitchen tools and equipment after use.

Qualifications

Previous kitchen or food service experience preferred but not required.

Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.

Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques and kitchen safety practices.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in ingredient preparation.

Ability to stand for extended periods (4-8 hours).

Ability to lift and carry items up to 30 pounds safely.

Willingness to follow instructions and learn from kitchen staff and chefs.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

The Prep Cook role requires standing for extended periods and working in a busy kitchen environment. The position also involves handling sharp kitchen tools, lifting items, and working in a fast-paced setting. Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends, is essential.
