Job summary

Methodist Hospital Westover Hills in San Antonio, TX is seeking an RN PreOp to evaluate patients prior to surgery and educate families about peri-operative care. You will prepare patients with IV therapy, medications, and site verification, while following universal protocols.

You will be part of an interdisciplinary team, applying the nursing process, critical thinking, and leadership to ensure safe, evidence-based care and continuous improvement in the peri-operative setting.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited diploma, associates, or baccalaureate degree registered nursing program.
• Minimum of six (6) months of clinical experience as a licensed Registered Nurse.
• Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
• Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process.
• Prepare patient with IV therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification.
• Participate in surgical site verification and universal protocols.
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
• Deliver high-quality patient-centered care while applying evidence-based practices.
• Be an integral member of the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with providers, surgeons, and other staff.
• Apply nursing process, critical thinking, and leadership to deliver safe nursing care.
• Assess patient condition, monitor during shift, and document changes and care provided.
• Educate patients and families about medical condition, treatment, and follow-up measures.
