Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Preadmission Testing (PAT) RN to conduct comprehensive preoperative phone assessments, verify records, obtain clearances, and confirm all required forms for scheduled surgeries.

The role supports nine Surgical Services areas and serves as the final checkpoint before surgery to prevent delays and cancellations, ensuring safety and a seamless patient experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
• Active RN license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where services are provided.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• One year of clinical nursing experience typically required.

Responsibilities

• Perform preoperative nursing assessments via phone, verify medical records, obtain clearances, review forms and preoperative instructions.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care teams to ensure completeness of records and readiness for surgery.
• Document accurately in electronic health records and coordinate with unit staff and departments.
• Demonstrate safety culture and ethical decision-making in patient care.
• May participate in coverage for other units or facilities within the service area as needed.
