SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology seeks a temporary full-time Genetic Counselor/Clinical Instructor to oversee prenatal genetic counseling services. The role collaborates with the Antenatal Testing Unit Director to assess obstetrical genetic risk and guide the genetic testing process, including consent and disclosure of results to patients.

Qualifications

• Board eligible or Board certified Genetic Counselor required.
• Preferably with 3+ years of genetic counseling experience.
• Ability to function independently with minimal oversight; strong communication and professional writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee development, implementation and maintenance of prenatal genetic counseling services.
• Provide obstetrical genetic risk assessments in collaboration with the Antenatal Testing Unit Director.
• Facilitate genetic testing process including informed consent and disclosure of results.
• Provide patients and referring providers with genetic testing results, risk estimates and recommendations.
• Collaborate with providers to coordinate patient care.
• Liaise between the Antenatal Testing Unit and genetic testing laboratories for test orders.
• Follow procedures and policies for compliance with genetic counseling directives.
• Stay updated on genetics/genomics developments for compliance.
• Attend applicable meetings and conferences.
