Job Description

Neighborhood Schoolhouse is hiring for the position of Assistant Teacher in our newly opened Pre-K/K classroom. Be part of Neighborhood's history as we begin re-opening our elementary program! This classroom will provide high-quality early care and education for children ages 4-6. The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30.

The Assistant Teacher supports the Teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment, assisting in activities to enhance the quality of care and education. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively, listen, and work well within a team environment. Responsibilities include implementing developmentally appropriate activities, observing and documenting children's interests and progress, and fostering positive relationships with children and parents. Experience with outdoor education in all weather conditions is preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Promote positive outdoor play and learning in all weather conditions.
  • Assist in implementing curriculum activities and encourage children's participation.
  • Respect children and support their development at all times.
  • Engage actively in activities; manage classroom cleanliness and materials.
  • Communicate regularly with parents through discussions and reports.
  • Model good hygiene and self-help skills.
  • Ensure smooth transitions from home to school daily.
  • Follow all policies and regulations.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
Requirements
  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in early education is a plus, but a growth mindset is essential
  • Commitment to obtaining a Northern Lights Career Ladder Level One within 9 months or completing three college credits in early education or human development
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Understanding of child development
  • CPR and First Aid certification (can be obtained after hiring)
  • Ability to complete Vermont Orientation Training within 90 days
  • Clear background check required
